Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) invites applications for the position of Dean of the Hunt School of Nursing (HSON). This is a unique opportunity for a visionary leader to grow the school’s undergraduate and graduate programs while improving healthcare in the Southwest region by expanding the pool of qualified nurses.
This position reports to the President of TTUHSC El Paso. The Dean will implement a strategic plan to meet the school’s mission of providing quality educational programs and advancing excellence in health care for diverse populations through programs of scholarship, research, practice, and service. The ideal candidate will focus on the development and growth of both undergraduate and graduate nursing programs with an emphasis on the recruitment of highly qualified students and faculty.
The HSON is one of four schools at TTUHSC El Paso, which includes the Foster School of Medicine, the Hunt School of Dental Medicine, and the Francis Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. The institution has four Centers of Emphasis (COE) that specialize in cancer, diabetes and metabolism, infectious diseases, and neuroscience. Research infrastructure is available to support investigators at all career stages, including seed grant funding, grant development, IRB assistance, and clinical trial coordination.
The Hunt School of Nursing is housed in its own 34,000 sq ft building. The Training and Education Center for Healthcare Simulation (TECHS) is a state-of-the-art accredited facility featuring multi-bed fundamentals labs, immersive manikin-based simulation suites, and dedicated exam rooms for standardized patient encounters and virtual reality training. The school’s CCNE-accredited academic programs include a 16-month Accelerated B.S.N. program, and an R.N. to B.S.N. program delivered in a hybrid setting of online, classroom, and clinical experiences. The M.S.N. in Leadership is the school’s first graduate program, with plans underway to offer a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in 2027.
The school enjoys community support at several clinical training sites, including the University Medical Center of El Paso, The Hospitals of Providence, and Las Palmas Del Sol Health Care.
Requirements
Qualifications: (See job requisition for full position description and requirements)
- Ph.D. in Nursing; or a related discipline plus a Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution; or D.N.P.
- Credentials appropriate for the rank of full Professor at TTUHSC El Paso Hunt School of Nursing, with an outstanding record of scholarly achievement and teaching excellence
- Texas license as a registered nurse or eligibility for Texas license as a registered nurse
- Minimum of five years of experience in academic nursing
- Minimum of five years of experience in higher education administration
- Proficiency in informatics, with experience in distance learning and telemedicine
- Demonstrated leadership in faculty management, recruitment, budgeting, staff development, accreditation, and program evaluation
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with ability to provide effective school leadership
- Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development and instructional methodologies
- Comprehensive knowledge of clinical nursing practice
- Awareness of current trends and issues in nursing and nursing education
