Summary:AGACNP Program Director provides leadership in promoting the mission of the University and in exercising authority over administrative, curricular, and student/faculty issues of the program.
I. APPOINTMENT, DEFINITION, AND EVALUATION OF POSITION
A. The Director of the AGACNP program is a registered professional nurse and nurse practitioner appointed by the Dean of the College of Nursing in consultation with the President, Provost, and faculty of the College of Nursing who functions under the supervision of the Associate Dean Graduate Nursing Division and assists the Dean by assuming delegated leadership responsibility.
II. QUALIFICATIONS
A. Doctorally prepared candidate preferred; or minimum MSN degree with an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner concentration from an accredited institution of higher education required.
B. Active unencumbered California RN license, NP certification and furnishing license.
C. National ACNP-AG board certification in population-focused area.
D. Demonstrated leadership and management including a minimum of two years’ experience in some capacity of nursing leadership.
E. Two years of college/university teaching; including a minimum of one year experience teaching at the advanced practice nursing level in an accredited higher degree nursing program preferred.
III. RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Personnel
1.Works with the Associate Dean Graduate Nursing Division to promote a scholarly atmosphere within the department and provide opportunity and encouragement for the development and enhancement of abilities and performance of each faculty member for the program.
2.Collaborates with the Associate Dean Graduate Nursing Division in the recruitment of full-time and part-time faculty for the program.
3.Collaborates with the Associate Dean Graduate Division in appointment and development of faculty assigned to teach courses in the program.
4.Consults with faculty to resolve any concerns with agency affiliations.
5.Collaborates with administrative staff to facilitate program operations.
B. Students
1.Works with the Associate Dean Graduate Nursing Division and the graduate admission office in facilitating recruitment and admission for the concentration.
2.Works with the Associate Dean Graduate Nursing Division and the Graduate Program Specialist in advisement, student progression and retention.
3.Assists the Associate Dean Graduate Nursing Division in handling student concerns.
4.Collaborates with the Clinical Affiliations department to facilitate practicum placement.
C. Educational Planning and Development
1.Collaborates with the Associate Dean Graduate Nursing Division in the ongoing development and program evaluation.
2.Assists the Associate Dean Graduate Nursing Division in planning class schedules and faculty teaching assignments.
3.Serves as a liaison with nursing faculty and clinical agencies for clinical practicum.
4.Responsible to report and enter program data in respective databases.
II. LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Supports the University’s mission and goals, the continuous quality improvement process, and embraces a broad institutional view.
B. Present on campus to provide comprehensive leadership of a professional program.
C. Serves as a team member and leads through service and modeling.
D. Provides feedback to the Associate Dean Graduate Nursing Division and participates in the development, implementation, and revision of a strategic long-range plan for the College of Nursing.
E. Builds consensus between students, faculty and nursing administration, respecting lines of authority as set forth by the University.
F. Holds meetings with the adjunct and full-time faculty who teach in the AGACNP program.
G. Works collaboratively with other graduate program directors creating a cohesive, supportive work environment.
H. Assists the Associate Dean Graduate Nursing Division and Associate Dean for Program Effectiveness in the preparation of reports for the institution, state regulatory agencies, and accreditation bodies.
I. Attend various university events to facilitate student admission, retention, and celebrations.
III. PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL ATTRIBUTES
A. Maintains membership and participates in professional organizations.
B. Maintains understanding of current trends and innovations in nursing practice, research, and education.
C. Maintains professional competence in clinical practice and national NP board certification in population-focused area.
D. Demonstrates scholarship through presentations, papers, publications, and other creative and professional activities.
E. Serves as a Christian role model.
IV. ACADEMIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND OTHER DUTIES
A. Fulfills teaching assignments as determined by academic contract.
B. Demonstrates and leads in a commitment to the integration of faith and learning.
C. Demonstrates and leads in a commitment to the utilization of technology in instruction.
